October 30 through November 4, 2007

The Lake Superior State University Public Safety Department reports the following activity for the period of October 30 through November 4, 2007:

On October 30, a concerned father called about his son.  Officers contacted the student in question and had him contact his father.

An employee working until after midnight on October 31st called to request an escort to her vehicle.  Officers responded and escorted her safely to her vehicle.

A resident of Brady Hall reported smelling the odor of an illegal substance coming from outside his window.  He reported there were a group of individuals outside at the time.  After contacting Public Safety, the resident dealt with the matter more directly by yelling at the subjects who were congregating outside.  As a result, the subjects were gone by the time officers arrived on the scene.  Increased attention will be paid to those congregating outside the residence hall as a result.

Neveu Hall was the site of a noise disturbance at 0249 on November 2.  The noise was being created by a number of individuals in the stairwell.  They were contacted by officers and asked to quiet down.  Everyone complied.

A resident of Osborn Hall reported the theft of a money box.  She filed the report on November 2, 2007 but reported that the theft most likely occurred between October 19 and October 22, 2007.

Also on November 2, a resident of a Row House reported that two individuals had walked through her residence.  She requested that the individuals be contacted and advised not to repeat their actions.

A tiff between members of a residence on the Row led to the accusation that one individual placed a substance into the shampoo bottle of another residence in an attempt to ‘get even’ with the complainant for ‘talking about her to other people’.  This incident is under investigation.

A member of the Norris Center student staff reported a theft of money from the Norris Center Student Athletic Center on November 3, 2007.  The incident remains under investigation.

On Sunday, November 4, residents of Brady Hall reported the fact that someone had trashed their room during the night of November 3rd.  It didn’t appear that anything had been seriously damaged but the incident is under investigation at this time.

In addition to the above actions, the Public Safety Office handled the following routine activities:  73 weapons escorts,  60 room admits, and 9 motorist assists.  We also received 11 lost and found property complainants, investigated 2 alarms, and assisted maintenance with 1 problem.

Public Safety Tip of The Week:  Living conditions in residence halls can sometimes become trying and conflicts are sure to arise from time to time.  Please remember that it is in your own best interest to deal with these conflicts as adults.  If you cannot resolve roommate conflicts in a one-on-one fashion, remember that your RA along with the Campus Life staff is available to assist you.
