The Lake Superior State University Public Safety Department reports the following activity for the period November 5 through November 10, 2007:

On Wednesday, November 7th, officers received a report from a faculty member in regards to a student being harassed by another student.  When officers contact the student who was reportedly being harassed, the student indicated no such incident was taking place.

A student came to the Public Safety Department on Thursday, November 8th to report that someone had entered her room and stolen some money.  The incident is under investigation and the student has indicated she may wish to involve the local authorities in the matter.

Music being played too loudly shortly after midnight on Friday, November 9th earned the listener a visit from Public Safety officers.  They asked the music fan to turn things down and he complied.

On Friday, November 9th, at 0228, officers responded to a Dumpster fire located at the west end of the Townhouse parking lot.  Witnesses to the events leading up to the fire included off-campus law enforcement officials who, reportedly, where able to turn video footage of the entire event over to Sault PD.

A caller reported two dogs running at large in the vicinity of Moloney Hall on Friday, November 9th.  Officers responded to the area but found the suspects had fled the scene.

Another noise complaint resulted in a disagreement on procedural matters when one of the students being noise stated his opinion that the person who complained about the noise should have ‘talked to him first’.  Officers informed the subjects that, given the on-going problems they have been creating, the matter would be turned over to the Campus Life Office.

Officers on patrol on Friday, November 9th at 2209 came across a weapon in a vehicle parked in a resident’s lot.  The owner of the vehicle, and the weapon, told officers that he normally stores his weapons at an off-campus location but had not returned it.   Officers advised him that it is against University policy for weapons to be on campus, even if they are in vehicles.  The student promptly returned the weapon to its storage location and apologized for causing problems.

And finally, on November 10, 2007 a resident reported receiving harassing phone calls.  The resident believed a house-mate may be behind the calls.  The house-mate, in turn, suggested it might be the complainant’s ex who is making the calls.  The incident remains under investigation.

In addition to the above actions, the Public Safety Office handled the following routine activities:  97 weapons escorts, 37 room admits, and 1 motorist assists.  We also received 8 lost and found property complainants, investigated 5 alarms, assisted maintenance with 2 problems, and investigated 2 vehicle accidents.

Public Safety Tip of The Week:   As a public service, Public Safety officers are available to provide escorts for any student who feels the need for assistance.  This service can be obtained by contacting the Public Safety Office at 635-2100.
