The rifle hunting season started on the fifteenth of November and there are a lot of people who are going to be out in the woods hunting. Although hunting is a fun activity there is always a risk involved. These risk range from getting lost, to shooting your friend in the face or some other accident. These things are surprisingly preventable. All you have to do is follow a few simple tips that will keep you and your friends safe.

1.) While hunting, most of you are going to be in the woods all by yourself; with that comes the chance of being lost. If you are going to be hunting by yourself, it is important to make sure at least two people, because one of them may forget where you are going. Also let them know approximately when you are going to be back. If you are going to be on your own, bring either a compass or a GPS so you always know where you are and how to get out of the woods. A cell phone is also recommended.

2.) When hunting in numbers always remember to keep your orange hunter vests on. There is no such thing as an orange deer, so you shouldn’t get shot at by your friends.

3.) Always let your friends know where you are when you are hunting together so you don’t accidentally turn into a target.

4.) Whenever you are not actively hunting, make sure to turn your safety on. If you do not know where your safety is consult your friend or the local gun shop (Wal-Mart has one).

5.) NEVER shoot at a sound. That is possibly one of the dumbest and most dangerous things you can do. If you accidentally shoot your friend, or another hunter you were unaware of in the woods, you are responsible. You will probably be arrested and tried in court. If you accidentally kill that person, you are subject to involuntary manslaughter.

6.) In the case that you do get lost and have no way of contacting the outside world, do not panic. Get your head straight and try to figure out where you are. If you find that you will not be able to make it out that night, the first thing to do is find shelter. Food and water  and wait because you can go a few days without water, but you will freeze if you don’t make a warm place to stay. So, always remember to bring along a flint and steel if you do not have a lighter.

If you follow all of these tips, then your time spent hunting should be a lot more pleasant, and safe. If you would like some more safety tips, you can always Google it.
