Is anyone interested in helping conserve the wetlands of America and Canada? If so you should check out this weeks “Club of the Week”: Ducks Unlimited. Ducks Unlimited is a non-profit organization that focuses on the conservation of our wetlands and help the numbers of the ducks and wildlife prosper in that area. They are very involved in the scientific research of how certain changes affect the habitats of the birds and how they can better any specific habitat to be more suitable to the development of ducks and other foul.

Member Corey Buggia, a freshman majoring in Fisheries and Wildlife Management, said: “We help support wildlife habitats, and especially wetlands through the Ducks Unlimited Organization….We are actually going to have a dinner coming in March that is going to directly support the Ducks Unlimited cause.”

He continued, “We have a long term goal that we are hoping to fulfill. We are hoping that with time we will be able to purchase our own plot of land that we would be able to run a management program on. After we have everything set up we would put some hunters on it so they can hunt the area, and we would do conservation stuff on the land. (It) would be a lot of research on our parts, trying to figure out what works.”

Though this is a very new club here at LSSU, it will definitely be an influential one that is likely to be loved by hunters and non-hunters alike. The club meets every other Monday at 9:00pm in Crawford 204 anyone and everyone is welcomed.

Mr. Buggia finished with, “I am a duck hunter and I think it is interesting that we can form a club here at LSSU and be part of an international organization. Ducks Unlimited is a great club that can do a lot of good.”
