The men’s basketball teams has experienced a disappointing start to their 07-08 campaign by losing their first 4 games by an average of 11.7 points a game, and have lost their last three by 15 each, counting their loss to Northern State University on November 24. Though it is apparent that the Lakers are not playing well, there are some good things that came out of their game with NSU. In the first half, the Lakers shot well. From the field they were a solid 45.8% on 11-24 shooting. They were also 8-9 from the charity stripe in the first half and 13-15 in the second making them 87.5% from the line. Poor defense was played in this game by the Lakers as they allowed NSU to jump to a fast 6 point start that they eventually made back up, but never led. The first five minutes of the game seemed promising as the Lakers were bouncing back from their deficits, but eventually crumbled under a 33-11 run which featured an outstanding 9 hit three pointers in a little over nine minutes, four of which were scored by guard Craig Nelson who didn’t miss any shots in that span. Nelson finished with 19 points and shot 5-7 from three land. Mark Morse cut the lead to eleven capping a short 9 point run by the Lakers. NSU ended the last 4 minutes with a small 9-5 run to extend their lead to 17. The second half was a lot more competitive by the Lakers as they got to the line 13 times. At one point they cut the lead to only ten points and out scored their opponent 32-30, but it was too little to late as NSU’s first half scoring was too much to over come and the Lakers lost their fourth in a row. Mark Morse put on a show for the Lakers. He shot 7-12 from the field including his 6-10 on three point shots, hit both of his free throws, had zero turnovers, four assists, and a key steal on a late run by the Lakers. He finished with 22 points. Ryan Kuhl had 16 points, 8 rebounds, two of them offensive, with 2 blocks and 2 steals. LSSU was out rebounded 20-28. Add as favourites (0)
