Lake Superior State students were treated to a special performer for the second time in one week. Wednesday night in the Superior room the comedian/speaker Preacher Moss delighted his guests with intellectually stimulating material about race, racism and his view on them as one.

In the hour he was allotted to speak, Preacher Moss talked about religion, race, ethnicity, and cultural backgrounds, the audience responded well with laughter at his philosophy.  

“There is no such thing as white”, is an example of one of the things that he demonstrated to his audience, along with many other “outside the box” thinking processes. In his words the summed up message of his performance was: “The idea we have to understand is that there are a lot of ideas about false identity. There is no black and no white. We all connect in some way or another. So racism is illogical”

A trip all the way to Sault Ste. Marie is a long one for anyone out of the state to make. Preacher Moss said “The message is why I came. I have done this “job” for years without a paycheck. I don’t tell the campus how much to pay me. When you don’t worry about money, you can end up in the oddest places trying to talk to people about racism. I ended up speaking in a prison and at high schools. Even if it takes me to Subway talking to a guy. My job is to share the info, not try to tell people what they should think. People have to make their own inferences on the stuff that I present, and maybe share it.”

To the unfortunate people who decided not to come to his show or were not aware of it , Preacher Moss says, “Talk to somebody who did come. They can present you with the basic ideas of what I talked about, and they can also share their view on the things we discussed. It is all a matter of community.”
