Are you bored? Do you have some left-over holiday gift cards or money that you wish you could spend? Do you wish there was a mall in Sault Ste. Marie for you to walk around and enjoy with friends? Well, hold your breath and look no further! Word on the street is that the Sault Ste. Marie city council gave a Canadian developer permission to start construction on a 140,000 square foot mall as early as this summer. This isn’t just any mall, though! This mall would be a theme park of its own right. The mall reportedly will include shops, hotel, theatre, indoor water park, rock climbing walls, and possibly horseback riding. According to Channel 9 and 10 News, the mall will replace the current I-500 track, just a hop and a skip from campus. The plans include the rebuilding of a brand new track elsewhere in the Soo. In addition to a place for college students to shop and spend time, the mall, which has been dubbed “The Ozone,” could create hundreds of jobs and would financially help out the community a great deal. It is estimated that upwards of $70 million will be used to finance the new mall, but the developers assure the community that no public funding is necessary. So be on the lookout for a new mall next school year! If all goes well, and construction begins this summer, the new mall may be open mid 2009. Add as favourites (0)
