Thank you for expressing your concern. The insert in the April 6 issue of The Compass entitled “Stop the Madness” was paid for by the Human Life Alliance. The Compass Newspaper had no part in the information selection, design, or printing that went into producing the insert. No student or University funding was used to produce or print this insert. It was sent to our office and then went straight to the printer for insertion. 

While we maintain a policy of strict neutrality in all of the articles we produce, The Compass has carried both Pro-Life and Pro-Choice advertisements from other organizations in the past. Neither these inserts, nor the contents of any other advertisers’ ads, reflect the views and opinions of The Compass or Lake Superior State University. We will, within reason, carry any advertisement or insert for which we are being properly paid.

The portion of the Student Activity and Media Fee which is given to The Compass is used exclusively for paying our staff, and purchasing equipment and resources for our office. The actual printing of the paper is entirely paid for by the advertisements we carry. No student money granted to The Compass is ever used to “advertise” anything.

A copy of our Rate Card, which includes the price to have inserts included in The Compass as well as our Advertising Policies, can be found on the bulletin board next to our office door.
