Lake Superior State University nursing students, the Sault Tribe Community Health Education staff and the Sault Ste. Marie Tribal Youth Council members participated with the Chippewa County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition to coordinate education and awareness events for Through With Chew Week; February 17 through 23, 2008. Julie Trotter, Chippewa County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition Coordinator states, “An average size dip of smokeless tobacco contains three to four times the nicotine of one cigarette. Spit tobacco is also known to contain at least 28 known cancer-causing agents. It is a highly addictive product and it is not a safe alternative to cigarettes. Smokeless is NOT harmless.” For more information about the dangers of spit tobacco or how you can quit spit tobacco use, please contact the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition @ 635-3636 and the Michigan Tobacco Quit Line at 1 800 480 QUIT or visit www.nstep.org, ww.chewfree.com or www.smoke-freeup.org Add as favourites (0)
