March 10 through March 16, 2008

The Lake Superior State University Public Safety Department reports the following activity:

On Tuesday, March 11, 2008, a female student filed a report with the Sault Sainte Marie Police Department that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend.  A secondary report was also filed with the Public Safety Department.  The boyfriend was ultimately arrested by the police and served with a trespass warning barring him from returning to campus.

A call from a local public school resulted in a brief search for a parent attending classes on campus.  The public school reported an emergency with a child on Tuesday, March 11 at 1230.  The parent was located in the library at approximately 1330.

A visitor to the Norris Center reported the theft of a pair of running shoes on Wednesday, March 12.  The victim stated he had locked the shoes in his locker on Friday and when he returned on Wednesday, the shoes were missing.

Also on Wednesday, a member of the Norris Center reported the presence of a male subject in the women’s locker room.  Officers responded to the scene and identified a potential pair of suspects.  The suspects stated they were visiting from a local group home.  Officers then contacted Sault PD for an assist with the situation.  The city officers went to the group home and spoke with the director in an attempt to bring an end to the situation.

On Saturday, March 15 a student reported a theft from her dorm room.  An undisclosed amount of money was taken and there is a suspect in the theft.  The investigation is on-going at this time.

Finally, on Sunday, March 16, a student reported having gas stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in H Lot.

In addition to the above actions, the Public Safety Office handled the following routine activities:  27 weapons escorts, 48 room admits, and 5 motorists assists.  We also received 23 lost and found property complainants, investigated 2 alarm, assisted maintenance with 3 problems and investigated 1 vehicle accident.

Public Safety Tip of the Week:  With the rise in gas prices, gas theft will most likely be on the rise.  It may be in your best interest to invest in preventive measures such as a locking gas cap.
