If you haven’t already, you should pay a visit to the Rex T. Marsh oil painting exhibit in the Kenneth Shouldice Library Art Gallery. Times you can visit are from 8:30am to 12am. His work is currently on display from March 3rd to the 31st.  The art exhibit itself is composed of Rex’s new and old work, including pieces from different time periods and styles. His pieces include a soldier in Iraq, a ship in the St. Mary’s River, and a painting of September 11th, with a religious aspect to it. In the gallery, viewers can make comments about the exhibit in a sign in book provided by the library. Along with the exhibit here at Lake State, many of his other works can be seen at Sault Realism on West Portage. Their hours are Monday through Friday, 10-6, and Saturday, 12-5.  Rex, who is originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, began painting at the age of 12.  He said that “I didn’t start getting serious about it until after I finished high school.”  Rex attended Interlochen as a youth, and is a 1995 graduate of Kendall University of Art and Design.  He currently resides here in Sault Sainte Marie, producing paintings and prints.  Being that he is from Michigan, Rex claims that some of his favorite paintings to do have to deal with Michigan history.  He just recently completed a traveling exhibition called “Celebration of the U.P.” that went through Wyoming, Michigan, and Canada. Rex went on to say that he “Likes painting from every aspect and trying different styles.”  This can be seen in his exhibit in the library being that there really is no central theme which gives the exhibit much variety to the viewer.  For more information about Rex Marsh and his work, you can visit Saultrealism.com, or there will rexmarsh.com will becoming soon.
