March 17 through March 22, 2008 The Lake Superior State University Public Safety Department reports the following activity: The Public Safety Department received two separate reports of sexual assaults that occurred on campus. One was reported on March 16 and the other on March 18. Both complaints have been turned over to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department and are being handled by their detectives. The smell of candles burning attracted the attention of the RA staff in Brady Hall on Saturday, March 22. The RA’s checked the room in question and discovered several prohibited items including the candles. The RA staff confiscated the candles along with a hot plate and furnishings that rightfully belonged in the common areas of the hall. Public Safety officers confiscated a hunting bow. The bow was taken back to the Public Safety Department for storage. The residents of the room will undoubtedly be speaking further with the Housing Office. In addition to the above actions, the Public Safety Office handled the following routine activities: 5 weapons escorts, 40 room admits, and 1 motorists assist. We also received 10 lost and found property complainants, and assisted maintenance with 1 problem. Public Safety Tip of the Week: Please remember that you can protect yourself better than anyone.
