Here at Lake State, we offer a diverse grouping of activities, organizations, and clubs. One of our many clubs is the Gamer Club. The gamer club consists of many people who just enjoy gaming. Whether it’s an old school SNES, SEGA, or even more advanced PVP or MMORPG that you enjoy, the Lake State Gamer Club has a spot for you.

Meeting every Thursday night from six until midnight in the back corner of the Rathskeller Lab, the Gamer Club plays games like Counterstrike, Age of the Empire II, and Starcraft. However, this week they introduced Warcraft III, Rune, and Unreal Tournament. However, the club also hosts board (Dungeons and Dragons and Risk) and console (Nintendo, etc) games, just on different nights and at different times. The games are all “old” but that’s due in large part to old equipment. The computers simply can’t handle any of the newer games.

The club is unique in that it’s so detached from academia. It provides a real release for students where they can just have fun with people who share the same interests.

“…if you examine much of the other club activity on campus, you will find them firmly grounded in career or school related skills - which is great, but can quickly become more of a chore than a release. That’s where gamers club comes in, the perfect care free escape from the norms of campus clubs. We don’t have any required events, we don’t take attendance, and we won’t ask you to do any fundraising, we’re all there for the same reason, to have some fun,” said Garrett Munro, contact for Gamer Club.

So if you’re interested in trying something new, stop by the Rathskeller Lab. Computers and software are provided. Just bring money for pizza and pop if you’d like. Anyone can attend and try it out for a night to get a feel for the atmosphere. Basically, it’s a group of people having fun together and playing computer games.
