Shannon Curtis in the Galley PDF Print E-mail

As the title of this article might suggest, musician Shannon Curtis graced the Galley last Monday, playing the piano and singing, but not just that – she also brought forth some fundamental truths.

Truth one: In the words of one audience member at the start of the show, Lake State “could be doing better”

Truth Two: There is a direct relationship between the act of searching for love (or lust) and one’s ability to manipulate technology, such as cell phones (specifically text messaging).

Truth Three: The audience up here is always in the mood for “a pissed off jilted lover song”

More important than the truth, however, was the music she brought to the room, love songs from her two CDs (which were available for $5 during the show, and are available online ‘somewhere’), which resonated with many in the audience, though she received none of the accusations this year that she had ‘stolen my diary’ that she said she sometimes gets during shows. She also displayed a healthy sense of humor, usually making a joke or two during the show (see the above Truths), and occasionally messing with the Grill workers, with whom she was sharing the Galley’s speaker system, contesting the numbers they called with her own, once even in the middle of a song.

Shannon Curtis is a singer-piano player who, apart from having once been told she ‘played like a boy’, is from Los Angeles California, has been playing almost her entire life, and writes her own material from events in her life, some of which she related during her showing.

This is the second time Ms. Curtis has visited lake State, and hopes to do so again. She is currently somewhere in the middle of her two-month tour, so it is yet to be seen if she will return next year, though it seems likely.
