The Lake Superior State University Public Safety Department reports the following activity for the period of October 13, 2008 through October 19, 2008: On Monday, October 13, at approximately 1620, officers responded to a complaint from Norris Center staff that an individual was using the SAC without having provided any of the necessary identification. Officers spoke with the individual, who had no identification with her. She was advised she could not use the facilities without a membership or student ID card. An officer doing parking enforcement duties in E lot on Tuesday, October 14, discovered a vehicle with a fraudulent parking decal. His investigation revealed that the individual’s car had been registered but the registration had expired in 2007. The individual was issued a citation for the violation. Also on Tuesday, October 14, officers received a report of a car having been spattered by paint while parked in L Lot. The investigation revealed that the vehicle in question, plus several others located in various places in the lot, had been hit by what appeared to be paintball pellets. The early morning hours of Wednesday, October 15, saw a disturbance in Brady Hall. Two intoxicated residents reportedly had become confrontational with several other residents. The intoxicated pair remained confrontational and uncooperative with Public Safety Officers, so they were introduced to officers from the Sault Sainte Marie Police Department who arranged for the pair to spend the evening at the county jail, bringing an end to the festivities. The presence of four students in an unusual location at approximately 0257 on Saturday, October 18th drew the attention of officers on routine patrol. The situation was further complicated by the fact that two of the subjects ran in an attempted to hide from the officers. They were located nearby and officers determined there was nothing horribly amiss so the individuals were told not to run away the next time and to return to their rooms for the rest of the night. And finally, officers received a report of a missing television from Cisler Center staff on Sunday, October 19th. The television was last seen in the Peacock Cove. The investigation has been turned over to the Sault Sainte Marie Police Department and is on-going at this time. In addition to the above actions, the Public Safety Office handled the following routine activities: 53 room admits, 93 weapons escorts, and 3 motorist assists. Officers assisted maintenance with 4 problems. The department also handled 9 reports of lost, found, or recovered property. Public Safety Parking Tip of the Week: The Public Safety Department understands that a student’s parking needs will vary throughout the semester. If you find yourself suffering from a condition that limits your ability to walk, you may be eligible for a temporary medical permit. To apply for one, simply bring a doctor’s statement about the condition to the Public Safety Office and the staff will assist you to the best of our abilities.
