Eleven students have signed up to participate in LSSU’s Summer 2007 in China Study Abroad Program. This faculty-led program is the University’s first Study Abroad program to China, during which the participants will take two 3-hour courses: A Survey of Chinese Culture and Chinese Cultural Diversity. The two courses will partially fulfill the General Education Humanities requirement and the General Education Cultural Diversity requirement. Last Saturday morning, the participants attended a Pre-departure Orientation to learn more about the program and the trip. Also present at the Orientation were Dr. Bruce Harger, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Nancy Neve, the Registrar, Jenny Peterman, Director of Purchasing and Risk Management, Dr. Thomas Schirer, and Dr. Guidi Yang, the two faculty who will lead the students on the trip. The participating students are excited and ready to set out on May 14. Aside from taking classes at Shanghai University, they will visit and explore Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and the Capital, Beijing, to learn about the rich history and culture, to see the beautiful scenery, to meet the people, to taste the delicious local flavors, to feel the exotic cultural differences, to climb the Great Wall, and to come back as modern Marco Polos!
