The Faculty Association Executive Committee met last Friday and voted in strong opposition to the recent policy change that Lake Superior State University administration has made regarding the release of LSSU Student Financial Aid excess funds starting next fall.
Traditionally, the full amount of a student’s financial aid award was released to the student up to 10 days before the start of classes. The student who had signed an award contract could use those funds to prepare for the semester by paying some of the costs incurred to attend LSSU (i.e. books, computers and other equipment, rental housing costs, etc.). The recent decision by LSSU administration will hold back these student awards, releasing them to students in smaller, University determined increments over a period of time. The LSSU Faculty Association feels that this new LSSU administrative policy is not in the best interest of our students. Furthermore, student dissatisfaction with this decision (and how poorly it has been communicated) will negatively impact the University-something we can ill afford. We urge LSSU administrators to “keep our students first” and reconsider this recent policy decision. Add as favourites (0)
