An epidemic is sweeping through colleges across the nation; date rape and date rape drugs. The best way to arm your self is with knowledge, so that you can keep yourself and people you know safe.
Date rape drugs are mind altering substances that can cause the victim to have memory loss or blackout during the time that they are under the influence of these drugs. Some of the most commonly used drugs are • GHB affects the central nervous system• Rohypnol (Roofies) affects central nervous system • Ketamine (Special K) is a veterinary anesthetic • Ecstasy (MDMA) a CNS stimulant • Alcohol is the number one rape drug All of these drugs alter the conscious mind and make it easier for a person to become a rape victim. All of these drugs could cause blackouts or memory loss during the time they are under the influence of them. These tips can help protect you from these predatory drugs • Do not drink alcohol and if you choose to drink do it in a responsible way that will not lead to the point of intoxication• Never leave your drink unattended, if you do get a new one • Don’t take open drinks from other partygoers, only drink from containers you open yourself • If you suddenly feel abnormally and unexpectedly drunk you may have been drugged so have someone you know take you to the hospital and bring the drink with you for testing • Talk to your friends about staying safe and watch out for your friends and have them do the same for you • If you hear any rumors of date rape drugs being used at the party or club your at leave immediately and don’t go back If this has happened to you or someone you know go to the LSSU Public Safety with the information.
