The Lake Superior State University Public Safety Department would like to welcome all students back to campus for the new academic year. We would also like to extend a warm welcome to all new students. We’re glad you’re here. We’d also like to take the time to remind you of the following things that will help to ensure the coming year is a successful and safe one. There is a rumor in Sault Sainte Marie about the use of ‘date rape drugs’ at the local bars. Please, if you choose to go off campus to these locations, remember the following common sense safety procedures: Don’t go out by yourself, and keep an eye on your friends when you do go out. Never leave your drink unattended. Don’t accept drinks that you didn’t see made. These drugs dissolve in non-alcoholic beverages as well as alcoholic ones. Don’t share or exchange drinks. Don’t take drinks from large open containers. If you are in a conversation where your attention may be averted, put your hand over your drink. If you set your drink down long enough to lose track of it, do not pick it back up. Get a new one. If you feel like you are becoming severely intoxicated after only 1 or 2 drinks then get help. Beware if someone wants you to go outside to get some fresh air, especially if it is someone you have just met. Watch your friends; if they appear to be intoxicated in a disproportionate amount of time, take them to a safe place immediately. If you believe that you, or someone you know, has been the victim of this sort of assault, seek medical attention as soon as possible. Also, notify your RA, Public Safety, or the Sault Sainte Marie Police Department. In addition, please remember to keep your vehicles and rooms secured. We do our best to patrol the residence halls and parking lots, but we cannot be present at all times. Help us protect you. Secure your belongings whenever you are not present. Finally, the Department of Public Safety is a 24 hour, seven-day-a-week department that is here to serve the needs of the campus community. We’d like to extend an invitation to all those who live and work on our campus to stop in to the department with any questions or concerns you might have. Add as favourites (0)
