Monday, September 3, was definitely one of the sunniest, though windiest days of the Laker year thus far; but if you’re the type of person who likes the feeling of finely grained sand between your toes, and the way the wind quickly moves past your face, you were definitely one of the many people who attended LSSU’s Fun in the Sun activity.

The sun’s rays bat down gently on the shoulders of laughing volleyball players and their spectators as people waited and listened for the soft sizzling of hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill. The Sherman Park trip was “A lot of fun, and a good way for freshmen to meet the upperclassmen.” Says Brent Butler. The fun in the sun activity was all about having fun, there were plenty of people playing volleyball and an even greater amount of people swimming or just conversing among friends; so, if volleyball isn’t quite your thing, you were in a multiplex of jubilant swimmers enjoying yourself in the, more cold that usual, Lake Superior. If you’re not very fond of swimming, you were definitely not alone because people were literally waiting in line to get into one of the volleyball games, hosted on the three courts. Many people wanted more to just socialize, so they simply walked around the park a few times as they conversed with their friends, making new friends in the process; some people even played on the park equipment to bring back forgotten memories of their childhood. Despite the huge amounts of wind rushing between people, a few stragglers managed to play a game of catch… of course the wind quite often redirected the intended flight of the misled football. If you didn’t go to the Fun in the Sun activity, I apologize to you, because as you can tell everyone who went had a lot of fun doing exactly what they wanted to do and I definitely encourage you to attend any and all upcoming activities.
