Greetings readers. As the new President of Student Government I hope to expand students’ experience at Lake Superior State and fight for the issues that matter most to them. Student Government is in good form this coming year and its Executive Board is looking forward to the upcoming elections later this month.

With the New Year comes a new list of goals where this student-driven legislative branch is planning several expansions to improve students’ lives. Our survey capabilities are becoming more and more technical so we can stay informed and act effectively on issues most important to the student body. We are making efforts to increase our public relations to create a friendly work environment with all student organizations and to increase student awareness of our actions and our purpose. The Association of Michigan Universities (AMU) is also on our checklist.  This group has been the students’ voice at the state level for years and since it dissolved this past year, Student Government has been in constant communication with the other Universities to reform the organization. Along with that, strategies have been made to arrange trips to legislatures in Lansing under the Upper Hand Coalition, a group comprised of Michigan Tech, Northern, and Lake State. This is an exciting time for students to be involved in the power struggle that has sent our tuitions skyrocketing. At the campus level, plans to update the Constitution of the Students have been proposed that could improve the structure of the governing document and perhaps streamline the flow of finances. You should see us at booths promoting students to register to vote and in addition we might promote sending in applications for passports. Also if you have been keeping up on the news Lake Superior State has a new President this year. Student Government plans to work President Lowman to improve student life.  On the friendlier side, students can expect more events such as our well known cheesecake socials and can always stop by our meetings to voice their concerns and opinions come this October. Our election process is coming up soon, so if you are interested in being a voice for your fellow students feel free to drop an email to us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call our office at 636-2550.
