What is the President’s Council? A question that may seem silly to anyone returning, but to the new or those who have somehow avoided this knowledge, the P.C. Is the voting body comprised of the Presidents of nearly every student club on campus, gathered to make decisions about our well-being. That may be dramatic – perhaps it is better to say they moderate the rules that all these clubs go by, and so they make a great deal of important decisions about the way things are run on campus – perhaps most importantly, allocating funds to the various projects and student organizations. An intermediary organization, if you will, between the student body and the University Administration. Monday night marked the first meeting of the year, so of course a great deal of the meeting was concerned with introductions, and explaining the functions of the Council to those who will be seated on it and have not in previous years, or reminding those who have. The meeting also allowed those present to set their own expectations and hopes for the council’s functions, on colorful bits of paper with some foam stickers in various and seemingly random (or extremely happy) shapes. Expectations centered around efficiency, organization, the importance of attendance to meetings for all members (this was stressed greatly), equal distribution of funds, and open communication. Less dramatic requests included a motion that gavels be issued to all members, a mandate on the presence of Cheez-Itz at meetings, and a request that all meetings be kept under an hour. Elections were also held for officials, and the Standards and Finance committees were constructed before the meetings adjournment. Add as favourites (0)
