Winter is just around the corner, and the snow is coming soon. Everyone knows that winter means heavy coats, boots, gloves and hats to be able to keep from becoming too cold but those four pieces of clothing barely scratch the surface on what could be done to help you prepare for winter. First of all for those on campus there is a list of car must-haves that should be completed before the snow starts to fall. Cars need a check-up to make sure is running smoothly such as the battery, tires, heater, engine, and any other necessities that help the car run. The red cross recommends that cars have battery jumper cables, a first aid kit, a Shovel Basic tool kit, sleeping bags or blankets, extra winter clothing, a supply of high-calorie, non-perishable food, a windshield scraper, a flashlight, a bag of sand or kitty litter, for the times that your tires need a little more traction, bright colored cloth, and a cell phone. The next thing that needs to be done is getting bedrooms and houses more winter friendly. Wet shoes and boots will eventually be a problem so, it’s good to have a small rug on the floor to keep all the melted snow from getting onto the floor, maybe even invest in a boot and shoe dryer. Warmer blankets to keep you warm at night are also helpful and it never hurts to have a few more blankets in the closet just in case there is an extra cold night. The floors will also get very cold in the winter. An area rug will cover the majority of the floor, and will actually keep the room warmer. Renae Neph shared, “I’m not used to it being this cold this fast so I’m gonna get a warmer coat”. Warmer coats, car necessities, and blankets are commonly recommended for keeping warm in the winter, there are many other necessities, and a quick search on “google” will bring up a more extensive list.
