September 1-24, 2007.

The Lake Superior State University Public Safety Department reports the following activity for the period of September 1st through September 24th:

On September 1st, during move in, officers treated a 20 year old man who had tripped in Brady Hall and cut his chin.  The responding officers cleaned and bandaged the injury and recommended that the man follow up with a visit to War Memorial Hospital.

Also on move in day, a member of the staff reported injuring himself while helping move a television into the Student Village.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on September 2,  students, apparently celebrating their return to the University, were reported to be setting off fireworks in the area of the Row Houses.  Officers responded but found the celebration had concluded prior to their arrival.

Early morning revelers who created a disturbance at the Student Village by pouring an unknown liquid from the top of the stairwell drew the attention of Public Safety officers.  After officers confiscated 22 cans of an illicit beverage and a residence filled with underage individuals, officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department were called in to assist.  The result of the late-night high jinx was a trip to jail for two of the individuals.

On September 12, a resident of Brady Hall reported that his vehicle had been “keyed” while parked in H Lot.  The damage occurred between September 10th and September 12th.

A staff member in the Campus Life Office reported damage to one of the Townhouse residences.  The damage was to the door knob on the exterior door and was severe enough to necessitate the entire knob be removed and replaced.

A faulty window seal lead to a mishap in C Lot for a student on September 13.  He told officers that as he was entering the parking lot, the rear passenger window of his vehicle fell out and shattered.  Maintenance was summoned to clean up the glass.

Loud music playing after midnight on September 13 brought officers to the door of South Erie Hall.  The residents complied with a request to turn the music down.

Two individuals seen leaving a Townhouse with open containers of alcohol on the evening of September 15 drew officers attention to the residence.  As a result of the violation, the gathering that was taking place inside the residence was disbanded and officers advised the residents that they could not allow their guests to take open beverages outside the residence in the future.

A short time after officers visited the Townhouses on an alcohol violation, they returned to the same residence to take a damage to property complaint.  The damage was down to a second floor window and it appears that someone threw an object at the window, breaking the outside window pane.

Residents of the Student Village were again disturbed by loud music at 1:50 in the morning on September 16th.  Officers made contact with the offenders and asked them to quiet down.  They complied with the request.

A resident advisor of the Student Village reported a possibly intoxicated, belligerent student in one of the Towers.  The individual left the Tower and was reported headed toward Brady Hall.  Officers responded but were unable to locate the individual in question.

On September 18th, another student reported his vehicle being damaged while parked in H Lot.  The damage this time was to the rear window wiper.

A student celebrating his birthday drew officer’s attention on September 19th when he was seen throwing up outside CASET.  Officers contacted the subject to make sure he wasn’t in need of medical care and discovered that he had simply over-indulged.  Officers left him in the capable hands of his two friends.

Officers were contacted by an RA in Brady Hall on September 20 at approximately 2:00 a.m. about an individual who had thrown up in the hallway of the building.  Officers were able to locate the individual, who appeared to be fairly intoxicated.  The subject admitted to having consumed ‘some vodka and beer’ a couple of hours earlier.  Officers contacted Sault PD for assistance.  As a result, the young imbiber was arrested on a charge of Minor Consuming.

Shortly after midnight on September 23rd, officers were called to the Student Village by an RA who said she’d heard an individual urinating in the stairwell.  She confronted two individuals as they were leaving the tower.  One remained as requested, the other left the area only to return after officers arrived on the scene.  He admitted that he had emptied his water bottle in the stairwell of the tower because he needed something to spit into since he was chewing tobacco.  Officers instructed both individuals to clean up their mess to the satisfaction of the RA and to expect further contact from the Campus Life Office concerning their behavior.

South Erie Hall was again the scene of loud music on September 23.  The offender admitted he’d had his speakers in his window and was more than happy to comply with a request to turn things down.

In addition to the above actions, the Public Safety Office handled the following routine activities:  337 weapons storage escorts, 175 room admits, and 16 motorists assists.  Officers also investigated 2 vehicle accidents, 15 alarms, and assisted maintenance with 13 problems of varying types.  The department also handled 58 reports of lost, found, or recovered property complaints.
