We as college students, with our classes and multiple low-paying jobs and complicated social networks, are short on both time and money, so we are always looking for ways to get food in our systems quickly and cheaply. Frank’s Place, on Portage Street, appears to have caught onto this fact, and is now offering LSSU Students half-price meals on Monday evenings (4 PM – closing) on one condition – that those who want to get their dinners half price bring their study materials, and that they do some form of studying while they are in the restaurant. Owner Marta La Londe explains that “We’re doing this as a gesture of support for studying... we understand that you’re busy and you’re poor, so we just want you to be able to come here and eat cheaply.” Originally this special was offered on Sunday evenings, but La Londe was getting the impression that students don’t do very much studying on Sundays, so she has just this week decided to change the day to Monday.

There are a number of reasons that students should be considering this offer. The first is that most of the food at Frank’s place is pretty inexpensive in the first place, so cutting the bill in half is going to result in a pretty miniscule price. The second is that there is not one thing on the menu at Frank’s place that doesn’t taste twice as good as ramen, or whatever other instant abominations we are able to concoct in five minutes in our little dorm kitchenettes. Especially impressive is the selection of deli sandwiches and subs that the restaurant offers, but that isn’t to say that it’s the only good thing on the menu. There are some very tempting pasta entrees, regular all-you-can-eat specials, and a soup and salad bar, which is included with a number of the dinner entrees. That brings us to the third and most important reason to go to Frank’s on Monday evenings – you will be filled up with good food.
