Ever wish you could make free and easy money? On September 26, 2007 students at Lake State had the opportunity to do so. They did this by participating in the game show “The Money Tree”. This show took place at 8 p.m. in the Superior Room and was sponsored by Student Activities Board. The game consisted of a parody of well known game shows such as Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Students who participated were picked at random and had to do a variety of ridiculous tasks to win that particular round. Some of the tasks included hitting a ball off of a tee as far as you can without using your hands or arms, drawing a picture of the state of Texas (the worst artist was eliminated) and a jumping rope contest. The winner of each round had the chance to move on to the next one, and was automatically granted 20 seconds at the money tree. The Money Tree was filled top to bottom with $5 bills.
The host of “The Money Tree”, Sean Carlin, has been touring the country hosting “The Money Tree” and doing his own stand-up comedy for over six years. Students from over hundreds of colleges and universities, from the Key West to Montana, had the chance to win over $500 from participating in the game. Carlin explains his job as “traveling the country giving college students funny and money!” Although not everyone can be a winner or participate, as true for all game shows; t-shirts and one dollar bills were given out at random times throughout the show. At the end of the show, the three winners from the previous rounds moved on to what they had been waiting for the whole show, the Money Tree. Stephen Lane went first, collecting $60 in 20 seconds. Next came Krystle Troyer, who ended with $50, and lastly Jeff Erb left with $60.
