The Lake Superior State University Public Safety Department reports the following activity for the period of September 24th through September 30, 2007:

An argument between a male student and two female students on October 24th resulted in his demanding they leave his residence, which they did.  The man discovered the next day, however, that one of the women had written uncomplimentary things on the dry erase boards in her residence hall.  The man was quite upset and wanted to file harassment charges.  The incident is under investigation.

On September 25th, a student reported being confronted by her ex-husband about child custody questions as she exited a classroom.  The woman was unhappy that he was able to obtain information as to her whereabouts and wanted the PSD to be aware of the situation.

Also on September 25th, patrolling officers noticed a dog lurking around a vehicle with an open door in A Lot.  Officers contacted the owner of the vehicle who claimed the dog and put him back in the vehicle.

A mother contacted the PSD after being unable to contact her daughter for several days.  Officers went to the subject’s residence hall to inquiry about her well-being only to discover she was not in.  One of her fellow residents advised that everything was fine, however.  Officers then contacted her RA and asked her to follow up and make certain the young woman contacted her mother.

A Fraternity rush prank went a bit awry on Thursday, September 27th when the recipient of the prank came to the PSD to report his computer being taken from his residence by either officers from the PSD or IT workers.  Officers advised the young man that neither department would confiscated a computer.  A little investigation quickly revealed the true nature of the situation and the young man was able to reclaim his computer.

A resident of Neveu Hall became concerned after a friend who was visiting from MSU went out for “a breath of fresh air” and was gone for over 30 minutes.  The friend returned a few minutes later, on his own.

In addition to the above actions, the Public Safety Office handled the following routine activities:  137 weapons storage escorts, 66 room admits, and 4 motorists assists.  Officers also investigated 2 alarms, and assisted maintenance with 4 problems of varying types.  The department also handled 13 reports of lost, found, or recovered property complaints.

Public Safety Tip of the Week:  Remember that the Public Safety Office also provides residents and visitors to campus with vehicle assistance such as jump starts and lock outs.  If you have any sort of vehicle trouble, contact the PSD to see if we can help.  If we cannot, by letting us know your vehicle is disabled, you can avoid receiving a parking citation.
