On Saturday October 6, the new president of Lake State, Dr. Rodney Lowman, held a reception open house to give students and faculty a chance to meet the president on a personal level. The reception was held at his house, and new primary residence, on campus across from the Admissions building, and featured refreshments for guests. Seventy-six students RSVPed for the event, according to Kaye Batho. Almost that many showed up.
The president and his wife were open to questions while socializing and trying to get to know their new students. The mood remained relatively informal, despite the elegant look of the house and the hosts. Various students stopped by and talked with the president about various issues. The president seemed to be enjoying himself, as he was taking pictures of the guests. Through the various questions that he was receiving, people had the opportunity to learn quite a few things about the new president. Dr. Lowman, PhD, graduated from high school in Plattsburg, New York after first spending two years in Newfoundland, Canada. He graduated with bachelor degrees in Business and Psychology from Oklahoma State University and University of Oklahoma, respectively. He has a Masters in psychology and a PhD in Industrial-Organizational and Clinical psychology from Michigan State University. On a more personal note, Dr. Lowman said the words that describe him are, “Serious. Entrepreneurial. Get things done. Creative. Work hard.” He let it be known that his favorite color is blue. In reference to athletics at Lake State he said, “I am very enthusiastic about our sports teams.” He said that he understands that hockey and women’s basketball are big sports here and hopes that the other sports will become more competitive. The president has no pets, but may get a dog. Add as favourites (0)
