Having to play their last game with only five players, due to legal difficulties, the Lakers (7-14) came back with a full roster to play Finlandia University (8-10). LSSU First year head coach has been able to figure out the winning formula on the road as the Lakers have posted a home court stand of  7-4, including their win over Finlandia, 86-64.

The legal issues that the team was subjected to gave a few players a bit more time on the court, namely Anthony Gibson, he almost tripled his average season playing time of 8 minutes when he got to play 21 minutes on Saturday.

Tyler Gordon from Finlandia started off the game with his first of what would end up being 10 steals. This first one he took from the before mentioned Gibson. The Lakers Tim VanOudheusden got the first of the stats that matter; he put one away to give the Lakers their first lead of the game. The first half consisted of 14 steals, 5 of which came from Tyler Gordon, which effectively turned it into a track meet. LSSU was able to handle it and were not behind at all in the half, and hitting the five minute mark, went on a 14-2 run to give them a 38-21 lead as they stepped off the court.

VanOudheusden had 15 first half points.

Again, the second half started out with the sixth of Tyler Gordon’s 10 steals, this one taken from Mark Morse. Mike Philippi then beat LSSU down the floor for 2 points. Over the next few minutes, the Lakers went on an 11-5 run to expand their lead to 23 points.

Mark Morse played a role in sealing off the game to Finlandia. From the 12 minute mark and the next 4 minutes, Morse had 14 point run of his own. This included 4 three pointers, and a block. With less than two minutes left in the game Finlandia started hoisting three balls. Gordon missed one though and had it thrown down the court where VanOudheusden beat everyone and dunked home an exclamation point on a 22 point win.

VanOudheusden had a double-double with 10 boards and a career high 25 points. Shooting 7-9 from the field, including his 6-8 from behind the arc, Mark Morse finished with a season high 22.
