To the Editor:

I am writing in response to the Prosecutor for the Student Body’s letter, published in last Friday’s Compass.

Someone who claims to represent the concerns of the student body should reconsider attempting to do so at four o’clock in the morning. I found the letter to be shockingly unprofessional and vaguely threatening in a Godfather-esque way, as if Mr. Petkus claims the power to make or break whomever he wishes.

Has Mr. Petkus taken any surveys to find the opinions of the student body for whom he claims to advocate? Has he collected any hard data to support his stance that every student at LSSU stands behind his posturings? I, for one, was never asked for my opinion concerning whether I wish to see Ms. Thalacker’s “head on a platter” because of her mistake with the activities budget this year ( I do not).

From what I can determine Ms. Thalacker has made an unintentional mistake that she is working to remedy. Mr. Petkus’ call for her destruction, “metaphorically speaking” or otherwise, is ridiculously overwrought.

Perhaps Mr. Petkus should, (on behalf of the student body, of course), challenge Ms. Thalacker to a sword fight or a joust on horseback. Those methods would certainly be comparable to his current practices of logical diplomacy.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Secrest
President, LSSU College Democrats
