At the previous meeting, on November 12th at 8:00pm, Student Government met in the Anchor Room of the Cisler building. The meeting was lead by Interim President Kayla Robertson. As first in the line of business, the Student Government meeting time was changed to 8:30 on Wednesdays instead of 8:00 on Wednesdays. Budget was discussed and Student Government currently has $13,230 and is required to spend $2,300. Also there was an accounting error in which $8500 dollars of Student Government money was accidentally given to WLSO; whom spent a lot of it. Student Government is currently working on a plan to acquire those funds. Interim President Kayla Robertson reported meeting with the Board of Trustee’s and discussing the SAM fee, Men and Woman’s golf team, and Tuition Plateau. President Lowman decided on more research to be done on the Tuition Plateau concept before making anymore decisions, thus pushing its possibility back to 2010. The SAM fee did not make the agenda of that meeting. Thus, the projected SAM fee change should occur in Fall of 2009. Garrett Munro discussed Student Government Image Improvement, Student Government Shirts, Winter Carnival, and a Camera for the Public Relations Department. The discussion of getting a camera for Public Relations was a little heated with both sides agreeing that Public Relations needs a camera for some things but differed upon where to get the camera from. Options discussed were purchasing a new camera, possibility of purchasing SIFE’s camera, and borrowing the camera from another organization like the Compass. Representative Garrett Munro was quoted as saying that having the camera for Public Relations will help them to take the Public Relations in their own hands. The only concern expressed was in regards to saving money by not buying the camera and using the money for other means. Three resolutions were brought up in the meeting. The first proposal was to allocate up to $100.00 dollars for the Veteran’s Day social held by Student Activities at LSSU (held November 11, 2008). The second proposal was to commend SOFD, Simon Purdy, and Professor and Mrs. Mauldin for their work in bringing Paul Rusesabagina to LSSU (which was held November 12th, 2008). The third proposal was to Co-Sponsor the Passport Fair with SIFE allocating $17 dollars per student (up to 100 students or $1700) to help cover part of the cost of getting a passport. SIFE representatives were present to explain the benefits and needs within the resolution. All three resolutions were passed unanimously and Professor Mauldin and SOFD were applauded for their hard work. A motion to setup a committee to consider the change of the rulebook from latest Robert’s Rules to an earlier edition was passed. The committee will look into using Robert’s Rules 4th Edition, a different rulebook, or a hybrid of a couple. The problem with the current Robert’s Rules 10th Edition is its complexity and size makes it non-user friendly. Also issues about Student Representatives doing and being able to participate in office hours were discussed. Another issue raised was the problem with SG representatives being able to access the office at certain times, seeing as the SOC (Student Organization Center) door is often locked. This is the room that ‘contains’ the SG office, meaning even reps with keys to the office can often not access the office. Public Safety has stated that it will not unlock the SOC for student reps, and so the problem will need to be resolved in another way. Interim President Kayla Robertson offered her sympathy and encouragement to the Student Representatives and the audience in regards to the hole left by the previous president. Add as favourites (0)
